Neighborhood House: Neighborhood House is a community center working to provide the opportunities, education and experiences people need to break the cycle of poverty. Founded in 1896, we’ve been located in the Portland community of west Louisville since 1963 and have programs for children as young as six weeks, all the way through to our Four Seasons program for seniors. Last year we served more than 450 children, ensuring they had access to early childhood education and quality out-of-school time programs. In our summer literacy program, over 90 percent of those who completed the program improved or maintained reading levels, successfully avoiding any summer learning loss.

By first meeting vital life needs, our families are then able to focus on learning the life skills that will improve their quality of life. We served more than 45,000 nutritious meals in 2017 alone!

We talk often of the importance of dreaming. Every day we encourage our members to dream of a better future, and access to the enrichment opportunities we provide allows them to do so. Together, we are empowering generations.

The organization’s Mission is to provide individuals with opportunities to enhance the quality of their lives.

Our Vision is to break the cycle of poverty for our children and families.
